Marcie Harris - Spring 2012

Boulder City has a champion for kids in this quarter's Unsung Hero. Marcie Harris began volunteering in Boulder City at the Southern Nevada Children's home in the early 1990's where she, along with a group of volunteers built the basketball court and remodeled several of the cottages.

She has volunteered for the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce since 2000 and served as the BOD President from 2004 to 2005. She, along with a group of volunteers began many of the Christmas events we all enjoy.

She has been an active member of both Rotary Clubs for the better part of 12 years, serving the youth of Boulder City in various positions. She championed the Peace Garden at Garrett Middle School, along with their Rotaract club. She continues to do annual maintenance of that peaceful space behind the gymnasium.

She has also served as event chair for the Boulder City Relay for Life from 2008-2010. In 2011 and 2012 she served as the logistics chair for Relay for Life. Marcie also volunteers for the American Cancer Society at the Cancer Closet at the Boulder City Hospital Foundation Office for three years. The cancer closet provides information, wigs, scarfs, hats, prosthetics and nutritional supplements as well as gas cards and food cards when grants are available for those with cancer.

In addition to all of that Marcie has been on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club for three years, a member of the Damboree Committee since 2004 and currently is on the Board of Directors of Gingerbread House Miracles, Inc.

It is with great pleasure that we salute Marcie Harris as our first 2012 Unsung Hero!
